In the early afternoon of February 11, 2011 a southbound Metrolink commuter train collided with, and fatally injured, a horse and its rider near San Fernando and Sheldon in Los Angeles. Witnesses to the horrific collision reported seeing the horse and rider traversing an elevated railway only to be struck by the train when unable to clear the tracks in time. The investigation was handled jointly by the Los Angeles Fire Department, Los Angeles Police Department and Los Angeles County Sheriff Department.
